About Malas (what they are, our Malas, and care.)

What is a Mala?
A Mala is a string of beads traditionally used in meditation and prayer in Hinduism, Buddhism, and yoga. It typically consists of 108 beads, although other numbers such as 21 or 27 may also be used. The beads are usually made of materials such as wood, bone, seeds, or gemstones, and may be accompanied by a guru bead or tassel. The Mala is used as a physical tool for counting mantras, with one bead being recited per repetition of the mantra, and the guru bead signifying the completion of a round. It can also be worn as a necklace or bracelet as a reminder of one's spiritual practice, and as a reminder of one's intention.
Our Malas
Our Malas are crafted with intention and care, following a specific protocol for each knot and bead selection. We use larger beads with larger holes for added strength and durability. Our 8MM beaded Malas are double-threaded and hand-knotted for added longevity. It's important to note that smaller beads require a thinner cord, so please keep this in mind when choosing between a mala for daily use or one for special occasions. We also provide information on the metaphysical properties of the gemstones used in your mala. Please note that the information provided is based on our research and should not be used as a substitute for medical advice.
How to care for your Mala
To keep your mala in good condition, it's important to handle it gently and avoid exposing it to harsh elements such as soaps, oils, lotions, and salt water. If cleaning is necessary, you can gently wash it by hand with warm water or a small amount of liquid soap. Take care to dry it thoroughly, as water and beads don't always mix well. If your mala has wooden beads, you can also consider re-oiling them and adding a fragrance, especially if you live in a dry climate. It's also important to note that natural beads may darken over time, which is a normal process. If your mala breaks, it's traditionally viewed as a sign of good luck and spiritual growth, but if you feel it broke prematurely (within 30 days of normal wear and tear), please don't hesitate to contact us.
